Cooking Directions

French Bread

  1. Entire bag French Bread & Pizza Mix.
  2. Enclosed packet of yeast (2 1/4 tsp). Combine: 1 3/4 cups lukewarm water or milk.
  3. 1 tsp cider vinegar.
  4. 1 tbsp honey or 1 tbsp sugar.
  5. 1/2 tsp salt.
  6. 1/3 cup vegetable oil or melted butter.
  7. 2 eggs plus 1 egg white or 1 egg and 3 egg whites, lightly beaten.

Large bread machine (2 lb capacity): Set machine on white bread and medium settings. Short cycle and programmable features may be used. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for order of adding yeast, wet and dry ingredients.

  1. Press start.
  2. During first kneading cycle, open lid and use rubber spatula to help mix dough.
  3. If dough appears dry and crumbly, add warm water, 1 tbsp at a time, mixing after each addition, until dough is smooth and thoroughly moistened.
  4. For best results, remove baked bread immediately and cool on wire rack.

1 Pound Bread Machine:

  1. Divide ingredients in half.

Oven method:

  1. Lightly grease a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan.
  2. Pour mix and yeast into large bowl.
  3. Combine remaining ingredients and add.
  4. Beat 2 min. using a heavy duty mixer.
  5. Scrape dough into loaf pan. Cover with plastic wrap.
  6. Let rise 40 minutes in a warm place or just until dough rises to the top of the pan.
  7. Brush with 1/4 tsp beaten egg.
  8. Preheat oven 375 degrees.
  9. Bake 40-45 min. or until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  10. Turn onto rack.
  11. Cool completely. Slice, wrap, and freeze.

Pizza

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. Prepare dough as in oven-method.
  3. On lightly-oiled cookie sheets or pizza pans spread dough to desired thickness.
  4. Cover with favorite toppings.
  5. Bake 15 minutes or until edges or crust are brown.
